Lasik Eye Surgery has provided relief for some.

But not everyone qualifies for the procedure.

Still there is a new alternative to Lasik.

It's called Implantable Collamer Lenses or ICL.

The procedure has been available in the U.S.

since December.

And it has finally made its way to the Lansing area.

Dr.

Rosenbaum ,of Rosenbaum Eye and Laser Center, is the first ophthalmologist to perform ICL locally.

The surgery costs anywhere between $6,000 and $10,000.

Just like Lasik, it is not for everyone.

The best candidates include people suffering from moderate to severe near-sightedness, ages 21 through 45 with a stable prescription.

William Goldstein has surgically implanted the first VISIAN ICL(TM) (Implantable Collamer Lens) in Michigan.

This recent FDA approved lens implant is the only foldable, minimally invasive lens approved for the correction of myopia, or nearsightedness, in adults.

The lens implant provides an alternative to glasses, contacts or LASIK laser surgery.

Dr.

Goldstein, a Detroit area ophthalmic surgeon, performed the procedure on Monday, March 6th at the Henry Ford Surgery Center in Clinton Township.

Six patients underwent the less than 20-minute, painless operation and have recovered with outstanding results.

"I am extremely pleased and impressed with the results of the procedure," said Dr.

Goldstein.

"It was thrilling to have patients experience such dramatic changes so soon.

All six patients have excellent vision.

Five of the six are now better than 20/20!

"That's where Photon comes in.

It's a windowing system, very similar to what you'd see on your desktop.

It takes the information and presents it visually."QNX has also established itself as a world leader in terms of providing operating system software to assist with navigation and other in-car applications.

In fact, about 140 vehicle models around the globe utilize the Neutrino RTOS as part of an integral connection that requires co-operation from a whole host of automobile technology suppliers.QNX's software can be applied for various in-car uses, ranging from a Bluetooth connection to a hands-free cellphone, or navigational aids -which are especially popular in Europe and Asia - to essential global positioning satellite software that can help pinpoint location in an emergency. At the very high end are infotainment, or entertainment, applications.

In fact, says Mr.

We wouldn't dream of putting a television set in the front dashboard of a car in North America, but there they do," he says, noting ...
