Longtime health care executive to chair LCA-Vision

...He is also the chairman of Deaconess Associations Inc., which operates 15 for-profit and nonprofit health care companies, including Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati.

He previously served as president and CEO of Deaconess Hospital.

Other directorships include the boards of Summit Diagnostics Imaging LLP and Cincinnati Financial Corp.

Woods replaces Stephen Joffe, who is stepping down as chairman and CEO of the company he founded in 1985.

Craig Joffe, interim CEO, said of Woods: "His vast experience in the health care industry, combined with his strategic skills and proven leadership abilities, are all qualities that bring an important external dimension to this position." The board of directors also announced that it will hire an executive search firm to help it recruit a permanent CEO.

Craig Joffe is among the candidates for that position, the board said.

Shares of LCA (NASDAQ: LCAV) were trading at $44.27, up $1.62 by late morning.

LCA, headquartered in Kenwood, operates 50 LasikPlus laser vision correction centers in the United States and a joint venture in Canada.

had a new advertising idea a few years ago: Put digital ads where the shoppers are - in shopping malls.

Last year, company executives decided they needed another idea to get shoppers to actually stop and look at the ads.

So they started giving some of their ad space away for free.

The free ads contain the kind of information that AdSpace believes will stop shoppers in their tracks: news of sales and special deals.

The free ads are airing at Westfield Garden State Plaza in Paramus and at 25 other shopping centers throughout the country.

The company plans to have the advertising network in place in 16 additional malls by July.
