"This is the first application of a drug that we can expect will improve vision in about one-third of people with the wet stage of macular degeneration," Johnson says.

"All the other treatments are just to slow down the decline in clarity of vision." The use of Avastin for wet macular degeneration is experimental and off-label, meaning it is not FDA approved and there have been no studies to gauge possible adverse effects.
