ArmeniaNow.com - Independent Journalism From Today`s Armenia February 24, 2006 1915-2005 Far Sighted: Students in California join Eye Project to aid children in Armenia By Gayane Abrahamyan ArmeniaNow reporter Ten-year-old Van Adamyan’s dream to see the world without a deep squint will come true at last.

Van suffers from severe “cross-eyes”, but will soon have corrective surgery thanks to some American students he doesn’t know, and to the goodwill of the Armenian Eye Care Project.

Children in California helped sponsor examinations for children in ArmeniaLearning about the Adopt-A-Village program of AECP, Mariam Samonyantz, a teacher at Mesropyan school in Pico Rivera, California encouraged her 9th grade pupils to take part in the program.

For three months the pupils saved their allowances - including some lunch money – and donated it to AECP toward getting free eye tests for Armenian children.

The Adopt-A-Village program invites donors to sponsor the screening and treatment of residents of a specific region or village in Armenia.

Donors can choose a village that has special meaning to them, or – like Mariam Samoniantz and her class – they can select a school.
